Reports from Paul Tenorio of the Athletic have indicated that Benfica midfielder Keaton Parks will be extending his stay with New York City FC after a permanent move. The report indicates that it will be a long term deal, meaning that Parks could be in the team’s plans for the foreseeable future.
Holding down dependable midfielders has been a struggle for City who lost the services of Yangel Herrera just one year ago. Parks seemed to be heading in the same direction after playing 22 games for the Eastern Conference winning team and scoring one goal. Parks will more than likely be standing alongside Alexander Ring next year, making for a formidable duo.
The news of the signing comes as City has been entrenched in a search for a new head coach. Little else has come from the club in the way of signings but much of their roster is locked into long term deals, meaning few significant moves could happen at all. Parks’ departure was seen as a major hole but his potential return means that the new head coach will be walking into an already built team.
