After returning from injury and helping NYCFC earn their first victory over the famed LA Galaxy, LB Ronald Matarrita will miss NYCFC’s next home match on Thursday September 1st due to his recent call-up from the Costa Rican National Team.
While I’m sad to say we will not be seeing one of our best defenders, Ronald Matarrita will be working to help his nation qualify for the World Cup 2018 according to Big Apple Soccer and confirmed by NYCFC & Twitter. Costa Rica takes on Haiti 9/2 and Panama on 9/6.
At this point it is unclear whether or not Matarrita will be fit to start for NYCFC when he returns for the September 10th matchup against the New England Revolution.
There’s no doubt that his contribution to NYCFC will be missed by teammates and fans alike, but we want nothing more than for him to succeed. Matarrita was also named to MLS Team of the Week for Week 24.
